How long does it take to plan a destination wedding?
I am wanting a beach wedding in which we provide for everyone who attends the things they need. I know weddings at home can take up to two years to plan, but what about a destination wedding? We’re sort of “pre-planning” at the moment… we’re trying to get together ideas such as when and where and what kind before we start to plan. How long does it take? If you have any experience with it, how long did it take you to plan yours?

Its totally up to you,I would suggest sticking to the beach or the backyard wedding because if you have a destination wedding, people might not be able to go because it depends on where it is but now a days i dont think they would wanna pay 600 dollars for a plane ride. so make it simple. thats just my idea, do whatever you want to make it the best day of your life.
I’d say about 2-3 months. My sister decided in Jan/Feb to have a wedding in the USVI. From there we looked at prices to fly there and decided on a cruise. She looked at different cruise ships and picked the line and ship. Everyone booked in Feb. We picked St Thomas since that was one of few that the cruise ship would marry you on.
Then we decided not to go with the ship but to use a local planner http://www.islandweddingservices.com. A quick couple emails to her booked the minister and the beach. She does the bouquet.
I’ve spent about a month working on the cake from some recommendations of cake bakers and talking about getting the ship to do it.
Her wedding will be April 22. But hers had to be so far out since we all had to book the cruise ship.
However I think most destination wedding brides are lower maintenance. Of course platinum brides renting Italian castles throw the average but “most” I think are picking a destination so that they can be on vacation and relaxed. So if you are low stress it seems like you could have a lot less time planning the wedding b/c you just don’t care about so many details. Usually there isn’t that much dancing so for my sister’s wedding there is no issue with that. We will have the sounds of the ocean. No “reception dinner” since we are on an island and we are just going to a local restaurant. No bridesmaids, no groomsmen.
But yeah I’d say you can very easily do it in 3 months.
