How do I find outdoor wedding locations?

I am looking to plan an outdoor wedding, however I don’t know how I can find a location, or where to look to find possible locations. I have used search engines and I can’t find any local places that are listed. Is there a site or something to look for when I am trying to find options for an outdoor wedding?
I am located in Western PA, in a location about 2 hours east of Pittsburgh. I just want it to be outdoors, a lake would be great but not necessary. I don’t want to be too formal or anything, but still nice.

I don’t know where you live ,but check some of the garden
    parks

Almost all of your local parks should be available for rental. We rented a lakeside park, including the pavilion, for about $65, for the whole day.

Make a visit to the Parks & Rec department in your city or township, they can give you the info.

Hi. Well, what location do you like? Is there a park nearby? A garden with a park? A lake? Look around for locations where YOU want to be married. Then, call the city in that location to inquire about renting it for a wedding.

Almost all outside parks, gardens, etc. are available for rent. Just check with the local city government about their fees and policies. Good luck!

If you have a parks and recreation department in your county or nearby county then I would start there. I live in MD and my county and the county next to me offer multiple locations for a weddings/receptions. They usually have park locations, historic homes, historic chapels or recreation centers.

Where are you? Hard to help, if we don’t know where you are located. Try parks, botanical gardens, bed and breakfast inns. Sometimes people wed at the beach or in a backyard gazebo. If nothing else, call the local garden club!

Google is our friend. Google “outdoor wedding venues Vermont” and pages and pages of sites will come up. Try to google “outdoor wedding venues” and add your location.

Also try your local message board at theknot.com. Perhaps the brides there will have some suggestions for you.

My word, girl . . . you have the Frick Art & Historical Center, Phipps Conservatory, or the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium from which to chose!
    Or how about these?

And PA has 215 lakes! You have lots of options!

In addition to the other ideas mentioned, don’t overlook hotels. I was at an outdoor wedding last year that took place in a hotel’s courtyard. Also, some churches and synagogues are set up for outdoor weddings. There are also dedicated mansions for weddings and other special events set up for outdoor weddings.

My own outdoor wedding will be at the formal gardens of housing development clubhouse. They built the clubhouse and formal gardens anticipating people would have special events there.

Make your search more specific. Try gardens, patio restaurants, state parks, wineries, etc.

Search reception sites in your area. Many places have outdoor spaces for receptions. I would find a place where you can have the reception both indoors and out.

One place I looked at a huge patio overlooking the beach/ocean and was attached to a reception room. I like it b/c cocktail hour could be served outside and then the reception in. In addition, as the night progressed. The guests could still use the deck to mingle or sit and have a drink away from the music and dancing. I liked that fact.

Also, it’s good incase of bad weather. Everything can be easily moved inside. If you plan to be strictly outside, it could be a problem.

Yes, tents work. But, what if it’s a nasty windy and rainy day. That would be bad. Best to have a 2nd plan for an inside location.

Check the internet. It is a great source of information. You can also check out bridal magazines. They have ones specificall for reception sites.

    This site is really useful.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_botanical_gardens_in_the_United_States

You can follow the links to the botanical gardens in your state, and on their website they often have information or a contact number for “weddings” or “events.” Most botanical gardens are reasonably priced to rent, and many have nice reception locations on-premesis.

I used this process to look for an outdoor wedding site in another state and had very good luck with the people I talked to and the places I visited, but finally decided that it would be easier to just have the wedding close to home.
